"At the beginning, I decided to study in China, mainly because of the rapid development of China, especially in the medical field that I am interested in. The level of clinical research has also reached the international advanced level, which is worth learning." Listening to Maxwell 's fluent narration, who would have thought that before he came to China, he didn't have any Chinese knowledge, and he couldn't even say "hello". After flying for 23 hours, he came to Yantai.

"It's really a long way from Africa, but I have great teachers, classmates and friends around me, and I don't feel so homesick." After arriving in Yantai, Maxwell began to learn Chinese with everyone's help. In less than three years, his Chinese level has advanced by leaps and bounds, and now there is no obstacle to the communication between him and his friends in China.

For Maxwell, when he first arrived in Yantai, apart from the cultural differences, the most difficult thing was the language problem: "People around me basically speak Mandarin, but I often go to the nursing home to take part in some volunteer activities. If I meet elderly Yantai people, they prefer to speak dialects, which include Zhifu dialect, Fushan dialect and Muping dialect ... It’s difficult for me to understand it."

In three years, he deeply felt some changes in Yantai. He said: "I feel that there are more and more foreigners in Yantai in recent years. When I first came here, because of the difference in skin color, I also encountered the embarrassing situation of being stared at. Now, everyone is used to his exotic face, and the embarrassment is naturally resolved. Gradually, I began to take the initiative to communicate with Yantai people around me, and felt the enthusiasm of Yantai people. Without these people, I could not experience Yantai's long-standing culture in depth. Yantai gives me a feeling of home. There are fresh fruits, delicious seafood, pleasant climate and clean beaches, Yangma Island and Yantai Mountain ... I like walking along and singing on the beach. Ghana also has a sunny coastline ... Now, besides my hometown Ghana, Yantai is my second home. ”

Maxwell is now studying clinical medicine in Yantai Campus of Binzhou Medical University. This year, he participated in the 2022 China (Qufu) International Confucius Culture Festival, the 8th Nishan World Civilization Forum, Shandong International Youth Exchange Conference and other important activities, and communicated with outstanding young people from five continents. In his spare time, he also studied economic knowledge, started to prepare for doctoral studies, and looked forward to and planned his future.
